Archbishop Spyridon offers prayer at President's summit
PHILADELPHIA, PA — His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Archdiocese of America offered the invocation at the closing ceremony of US President Bill Clinton's Summit for America's Future at Independence Hall Plaza here April 29.
President Clinton and former Presidents Bush, Reagan, Carter and Ford served as Honorary Chairmen of the Summit which was aimed at bringing America, especially its young people, to a new level of commitment to volunteer service. Serving as Summit General Chairman is General Colin Powell. Vice-Chairman is Henry Cisneros, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
On April 28, Archbishop Spyridon participated in a brunch and round-table discussion with the Presidents, governors, religious, civic and business leaders and chairmen, to discuss the Summit's goal to mobilize millions of citizens and thousands of organizations to make effective citizen service an integral part of American life.
