Archbishop Sypridon Mouns Loss of Nikos Kefalidis on Swissair Flight 111
New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon today expressed his shock and condolences on hearing of the loss of Nikos Kefalidis in the crash of Swissair Flight 111 off Halifax, Nova Scotia. Mr. Kefalidis, 55, had devotedly served the Greek Orthodox Church in America in several capacities and was currently vice president of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, member of the Archdiocesan Council and, with his wife Laurie, a member of the Leadership 100 Endowment Fund.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a valued friend and co-worker," said His Eminence. "Niko's commitment to his faith, his devotion to his family, his love of life and love for his fellow man will be truly missed by our entire Greek Orthodox family. On behalf of all the families of our Archdiocese, I express to his wife, Laurie, their beloved children, Melanie, Elias and Marisa, his parents, sister, brother, nephews and nieces,friends and co-workers, our heartfelt condolences and fervent prayers.
May God grant them His comfort and grace in this, their hour of grievous loss, and give them strength and hope to carry on, through the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ."
