Search Committee Appointed
to Select New President of Hellenic College/Holy Cross

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, has announced the appointment of a Search Committee to select a full time President of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology in Brookline, MA. He will succeed His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah who, since his appointment in August,1997, has had to balance his duties as president along with those of Presiding Hierarch of the Diocese of Denver.

George Behrakis will chair the committee which also includes: the Reverend Fathers Ilia Katre, Constantine Monios and Paul Palesty, Dr. Constantine Papadakis and Dr. Alceste Pappas.

Presidential Search Committee

George Behrakis, Chairman: President and CEO of Muro Pharmaceutical, Inc., Tewksbury, MA, he is Treasurer of the HC/HC Board of Trustees, member of the Archdiocesan Council, Diocesan Council of Boston, Leadership 100 and an Archon of the Order of St. Andrew. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saints Memorial Medical Center, Lowell and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of Northeastern University. He is an avid supporter of educational institutions including: the Northeastern University - George D. Behrakis Chair in the Field of Targeted Pharmaceuticals; Boston College, Bently College, Merrimack College, University of Mississippi - TheTriplett-Behrakis School of Pharmacy Endowment Fund and the Tufts University School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology Computer Room funded and named for Muro Pharmaceutical, Inc.

The Rev. Constantine M. Monios: Dean of the Annunciation Cathedral, Baltimore, MD, since 1975, is a 1957 graduate of Holy Cross School of Theology and received the Master of Sacred Theology Degree from Boston University in 1960. He has served as president of the National Presbyters Council, Orthodox Clergy of Pittsburgh and Clergy of the Central Churches of Baltimore. A former member of the HC/HC Board of Trustees and National Conference of Christians and Jews, he is currently Chairman of the Board , Greek Orthodox Counseling and Social Services and member of the Presbyters Council and the Metropolitan Orthodox/Catholic Dialogue.

The Rev. Ilia Katre, serves as Vicar General of the Albanian Orthodox Diocese of America and is its representative to SCOBA . He is Pastor of St. John the Baptist Church, Las Vegas, NV and a 1961 graduate of Holy Cross School of Theology. Father Katre served for many years as HC/HC Director of Student Affairs.

The Rev. Paul Palesty, is pastor of St. Nicholas Church, Flushing, NY and a 1976 graduate of Hellenic College/Holy Cross. President of the New York Archdiocesan Syndesmos, Father served as co-chair of the 1996 Clergy-Laity Congress and as a member of the Archdiocese Teenage Task Force.

Dr. Constantine Papadakis, President of Drexel University, Philadelphia, is an innovator in higher education with extensive experience in the academe and corporate world. Prior to joining academe, he served in executive positions with Tetra Tech, STS Consultants, Ltd and Bechtel,Inc. He presently serves as a member of the Board of the University City Science Center, the Ben Franklin Technology Center of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Hellenic College/Holy Cross, Fidelity Federal Bank, Greater Philadelphia First and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. He was recently appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to the Judiciary Council of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Alceste T. Pappas, President of Pappas Consulting, Greenwich, CT, earned the PhD from the University of California in the financing of higher education. Following service at the University of California as Director of Housing and Child Care Services, she joined Peat Marwick Mitchell and in 1984 was designated Partner-in-Charge of Consulting Services to Higher Education and Non-Profit Organizations. Dr. Pappas has done feasibility studies, strategic planning and consulting for universities and colleges throughout the United States, including 70 Catholic Schools of Theology, as well as a study of fiscal and educational resources of each of the 10 accredited Episcopal seminaries. She served for six years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Middle States Association and as a member of the Board of Trustees of Seabury-Western Theological Seminary and Hellenic College. She worked directly with co-author Fred Balderston on the 2nd edition of Managing Today's University, published in 1995.
