Archdiocese Preparing Commemorations for the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the Invasion of Cyprus
New York, NY- Today His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, met with participants of the last HALO (Hellenic American Leaders and Organizations) meeting to discuss joint initiatives to be taken commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of Turkey's invasion of Cyprus.
Such efforts would be coordinated among all the leaders of the Greek-American and Cypriot-American organizations as a sign of solidarity with their Cypriot brothers and sisters for the dual causes of human rights and religious freedom.
Participants included: Mr. Andrew A. Athens, National Chairman of the United Hellenic American Congress (UHAC) and President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE); Mr. John Catsimatidis, President of the Archdiocesan Council; Mr. Philip Christopher, President of PSEKA; Dr. Spiro Macris, past Supreme President of AHEPA; Mr. Andrew Manatos, President of the National Coordinated Effort of Hellenes Abroad and Executive Board Member of UHAC and PSEKA; Mr. Panicos Papanicolaou, past Supreme President of the Cyprus Federation of America; and Mr. Chris Tomaras, President, Council of Hellenes Abroad/ N & S America Region.
