District Clergy-Laity Assembly Supports Archbishop Spyridon
New York, NY --The Archdiocesan District Clergy-Laity Assembly has overwhelmingly passed resolutions in favor of the vision and leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is highly encouraged by the events that transpired at the District Clergy-Laity Assembly hosted by St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Jamaica, New York.
The Assembly passed five resolutions that are unequivocally supportive of Archbishop Spyridon. Specifically, the second resolution exhorts The Archbishop to remain steadfast in his ministry here in America and to continue to defend the Holy Scriptures, Holy Tradition, and the Holy Canons of the Archdiocese as he has done so tirelessly since his enthronement. A third resolution encourages the Greek Orthodox Faithful to uphold the "sacred" relationship between clergy, laity, and His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon.
A fifth resolution calls for the adoption of the Archbishop's Commission on the Greek Language, commonly referred to as the Rassias Report, as a national model to perpetuate the Greek Language and Culture in America.
Discussion of a sixth resolution by an individual, calling for the adoption of the Metropolitans' Report of early 1999, was overwhelmingly voted down by the assembly for "offensive" content.
The Assembly elected eleven new members to the District Council and passed an Archdiocesan District Operating Budget for this fiscal year.
