Archdiocese Executive Committee Issues Statement

New York, NY - Today, His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, convened the regular meeting of the Archdiocesan Council Executive Committee, which issued the following statement:

"The Executive Committee of the Archdiocesan Council, meeting today in its regular monthly session, expresses its gratitude to His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Most Reverend Members of the Holy and Sacred Synod for their paternal love, concern and interest in the life and polity of the Holy Archdiocese of America. The recent meetings with His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, the Members of the Holy Eparchial Synod and the Vice-Chairman of the Council demonstrate a most active role for the Mother Church in the life of Her daughter. The Executive Committee expresses its appreciation that the Mother Church has heard the voice of the vast majority of the faithful, who love their Church and their Archdiocese, and who earnestly seek the continuity, stability and integrity of the Archdiocese under the archpastoral ministry of His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon.

"The Executive Committee regrets the politics of the few who seek to divide the Church. Nevertheless, the Executive Committee extends a warm and Christian welcome to all parties who wish to participate fully in the life of our Church. In affirming the sacred bond and relationship of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Archdiocese of America, the Executive Committee also affirms that as the Archdiocese continues to face the complexities of our changing community, the Executive Committee and the Faithful remain steadfast in their dedication to the Church, the bonds with the Mother Church, and their support for the Archdiocese and His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon."

The Executive Committee was pleased with all of the departmental reports, especially the reports on the financial and legal affairs of the Archdiocese. The Executive Committee was extremely gratified to learn that the financial goals for the first seven months of the year have exceeded expectations and are in line with previous years and budgetary goals. Impressively, the legal report revealed that there has been a 300 percent reduction in the caseload of litigation (to 9 from 31 - of the 9 items remaining, all are covered by insurance). The Committee expressed its deep appreciation to General Counsel John Mavroudis for his exemplary work.
