Ordination of Bishop-Elect Nicholas Pissare

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, will officiate at the ordination of Bishop-elect Nicholas (Pissare) of Detroit to the episcopacy on Saturday, April 3rd beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Brooklyn, NY (8401 Ridge Blvd.).

Bishop-elect Nicholas, 46, a native of Glens Falls, NY and the son of Emmanuel and Caliope, is a 1978 graduate of Holy Cross School of Theology and Valedictorian of his class. He also did post-graduate work at the University of Athens. Following graduation from Glens Falls High School, he attended Colgate University, where he was awarded the prestigious Colgate War Memorial Scholarship and graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in 1975, majoring in French Literature and Classical Studies.

He worked in public health for ten years in Denver, and was active in the life of the Assumption Cathedral before becoming assistant to Bishop Philip of Daphnousia in 1983, who was serving as locum tenens of the Diocese. In 1990 Bishop-elect Nicholas was named as Administrative Assistant to then Bishop Maximos of Pittsburgh. He was ordained to the Diaconate on July 6,1991 in the Annunciation Church, McKeesport, PA and to the Priesthood on July 13,1991 in the Assumption Cathedral, Denver, at which time he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite. He served as Chancellor of the Diocese of Pittsburgh from 1991-95 and Chancellor of the Diocese of Detroit from 1996-97, before being assigned as pastor of Holy Cross Church, Brooklyn in August 1997.

The Mega Minima (Formal Election Announcement) of Bishop-elect Nicholas will take place on April 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at the Archdiocese Chapel and his enthronement as Bishop of Detroit will be Sunday, April 18th at the Annunciation Cathedral, Detroit, MI.
