Archbishop Sypridon to Visit Greece in February

New York - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, will make an official visit to Greece in early February at the invitation of the Hellenic Republic.

The invitation to His Eminence was first extended last year, however, the trip was delayed because of the death of the then Archbishop of Athens, Seraphim. Traditionally, the Archbishop of America has been invited for an official visit to Greece following his enthronement.

The four-day visit will include meetings with President Constantine Stephanopoulos, Prime Minister Costas Simitis, Cabinet Ministers and other Government officials. His Eminence will also address the Committee for Orthodoxy of the Parliament.

Archbishop Spyridon will meet with His Beatitude Christodoulos, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece and will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolis of Athens on Sunday, February 14th. This Divine Liturgy will be broadcast via television throughout all of Greece.

His Eminence will be accompanied by a member of the Holy Eparchial Synod, the vice chairman of the Archdiocesan Council, John Catsimatidis, the president of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), Andrew Athens and others to be named as all plans are finalized.
