Greek Orthodox Stewards of America - March 2, 1999

     NEWS

Motion passed by the National Board of Philoptochos February 27, 1999

Whereas the Philoptochos is a national philanthropic organization of the Greek Orthodox Church and ministers to those in need including our children of St. Basil, children in need of cardiac surgery, cancer patients, students at Holy Cross, Archdiocesan Missions and our beloved Ecumenical Patriarchate; and

Whereas the Philoptochos has pledged its total commitment to Christ and His Church; and

Whereas the Philoptochos continues in its constant and unwavering support for the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew I and His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, the members of the Holy Synod, the Clergy, and all Orthodox Christians; and

Whereas there are previously made statements circulating in the print and electronic media that have created some confusion among membership; and in particular, the position of the Eparchial Synod regarding the Archdiocese and its institutions continue to be misrepresented by some media;

Now therefore be it, Resolved, that the Philoptochos lovingly, and respectfully, requests in the interest of the continued unity of our beloved Archdiocese that the Metropolitans of the Holy Eparchial Synod empathically and clearly repudiate any continued use and misuse of their words or images including their confidential report to the Patriarchate; and we further implore that they emphatically state, in writing, that they do not endorse any statement that either maligns the Patriarch, Archbishop or in any way encourages autocephaly, and that we all confirm the words of Patriarch Bartholomew I, "Our faith is love, our message is strong and our truth is universal."
