«The Lonely Path of Integrity»
Book on Spyridon, former Archbishop of America
Entitled The Lonely Path of Integrity, the biography of Spyridon,
former Archbishop of America, will be put out by Exandas Publishers in early
December.
Its author is journalist Justine Frangouli-Argyris, who attempts to shed light
on the path followed by this church leader from his childhood to the day of
his resignation from the archiepiscopal throne of America.
The new book is described as a critical account of the activities and life
of a hierarch who rose to the high rank of Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church
of America after many struggles and a long ministry in the Church, only to
be "ousted" after three years, as the author stresses, "when
it became evident that he had no intention to serve the dubious interests
of the Center of Orthodoxy in Constantinople."
The book reveals the thrilling details of Spyridon's ousting, hitherto
unknown to Greek Americans and the world of journalism.
Archbishop Spyridon, who today has withdrawn from active Church service, in
the pages of this book bears personal witness --through his diaries, personal
notes and journal entries-- to the dramatic three years that marked the history
of the Greek American community.
