Remarks at the presentation
of "The Lonely Path of Integrity"
at Montreal City Hall

( April 26, 2002 )

Monsieur le Maire, Your Worship,
Madame la Conseillière Municipale,

Je suis profondément touché par votre chaleureuse reception et par vos paroles.
I am deeply touched by your warm reception and kind words.

I am also extremely impressed by the active interest taken by the City of Montreal in supporting such an impressive diversity of cultural pursuits and events, support that springs from this city's long intellectual and cultural tradition.

Today's event demonstrates your city's openness to all ethnic groups and communities. It also attests to the wealth of opportunities that you give them to maintain and enhance their traditions and culture, to develop in freedom and indeed to flourish in the multicultural environment of this beautiful North American city with a European flavor. This noble tradition does honor to the great cultural metropolis that is Montreal.

With the variety of life and culture that the City of Montreal offers its citizens and visitors, we can easily see why it has earned a reputation as an international capital of Francophony and one of the most fascinating cities on the continent. It is, indeed, "the queen of North American cities."

Hosting a reception for the launch of The Lonely Path of Integrity, by a Montrealer, the Greek journalist Mrs. Justine Frangouli-Argyris, is a clear indication of this great city's extraordinary spirit of inclusiveness.

Merci, Monsieur le Maire, pour votre généreux accueil et votre amabilité.
Thank you, Your Worship, for your hospitality and warm welcome.
