The Question

At first we thought, “Why aren’t people seeing this?” (regarding what’s going on in our Church).

Father Wesson’s posted comments are troubling on many levels. I have no problem with his decision to leave the Orthodox Church. I too have thought about it more in the last 10 years than I would have imagined before my exposure to the Ephraimite problems. The era that we as Orthodox Christians are living through in the United States will be seen as the “Dark Ages” of Orthodoxy one day. On the one hand we have Hierarchs from all Orthodox jurisdictions that seem to be devoid of leadership skills. Next we have compromised or poor judgment at all levels of Orthodox. | One only needs to look at the appointments of Archbishop Spyridon or Metropolitan Jonah to see botched judgment. The lack of good solid judgment descents to all levels of our beloved faith. It is here the problem lies, our good clergy expect and should have the support of their Hierarchs. Instead they are abused and manipulated by their Hierarchs.

In the end people of Faith like Fr. Wesson and others leave. Should it surprise anyone of normal intellect? The Church thanks to the Ephraimite issue is “coming apart at the seems”. The Ephraimites are an accelerant to the demise of the Church because they destroy Parish life in favor of heresy. I personally view their minions (the Ephraimite Clergymen and Laity) that blindly carryout the orders of their leaders as modern day Ephialtes’ (whose name means “nightmare” in Greek) to our Faith. I pray that one day the Hierarchy realizes that once a Fr. Wesson leaves our faith, he can not be replaced!
