No jobs for HC/HC Graduates
If you want to become a priest have a secular job to support your family
The current financial crisis has not left our parishes unaffected. Parishes that used to be able to afford a pastoral assistant or chanter can no longer afford them. Thus, a number of recent graduates have been unable to get jobs. The administration is aware of the scope of the problem, but do nothing about it.
Even more concerning are the number of graduates who are eligible for ordination but are not being ordained. Many parishes are unable to afford a second priest (The current number of parishes in the Boston Metropolis is 62. A second priest can only be supplied to 3 of them). Moreover, a number of bishops are willing to ordain intelligent, faithful men with little or no seminary training if they can minister without taking a salary. There are several men who have been ordained in the past year for the Boston Metropolis for this very reason.
If you love your son or daughter, send them to the best academic institution possible. Urge them to go to Church regularly and pursue a secular career. Be an example to them. Donate your time and talent to help your local parish and grow Orthodoxy in that way.
