New authoritarian actions of Fanari *)
By Georgios Papathanasopoulos
Once again the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople displays the authoritarian spirit from which it is possessed. This time he shows it to the US Archdiocese. Suddenly and far from any legal rule and basic human rights, he sentenced two current Archbishops, the Metropolitan of New Jersey Mr. Evangelos to expulsion from his Diocese and the Metropolitan of Boston Mr. Methodios to a two-month holiday.
On the surface, he did not foretell the authoritarian actions of Fanari. On Monday, September 28, 2020, the Archbishop of America, Elpidoforos, convened a regular conference of the Provincial Council in a teleconference, to "consider current issues on the agenda." According to the press release of this Synod and beyond flattery to the Patriarch. Bartholomew were expressed congratulations to those who contributed to the smooth conduct of the 45 clergy Assembly of the Archdiocese… In essence, the sole purpose of Mr. Elpidoforos was to extort the approval of the Provincial Synod for the election of three assistant Bishops, one in the Archdiocese, the Diocese of St. Francis and the Diocese of Chicago. It is noted that first the persons who will occupy the positions were approved and then the three-person was formed, which was submitted to Fanari for the election…
On October 5, 2020, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate unanimously elected the three auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese of America, who were already in Istanbul and performed the Small Message on the same day.
On October 8, the third day of the work of the Patriarchal Synod in Fanari, she, among other things, "dealt with issues of the First Archdiocese of America, considered reports submitted by of Archbishop Elpidoforos and took the following decisions" :
A) Suspended the Constitution of the Archdiocese of America, which had been voted by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, a few years ago, in 2003. A Commission will be set up by representatives of the Patriarchate and the Archdiocese to draft a new one.
B) Imposed on the Rev. Metropolitan of Boston Mr. Methodios sentence for a holiday until Christmas "for which he committed regular misconduct"
C) He transferred the Rev. Metropolitan of New Jersey Mr. Evangelos in the Holy Diocese of Sardis and appointed Mr. Elpidoforos as Patriarchal Commissioner in the vacant Diocese.
It is noted regarding the above that the former former Metropolitan of New Jersey Mr. Evangelos was born in 1961 in New York, is an American citizen and therefore essentially retired. The sentences for the two Metropolitans were announced, without any reason. In the Press Release of the Economic Patriarchate, it is mentioned that Matr. Boston is being punished for the misdemeanors he committed, without mentioning them, nor his own opinion on them. Therefore what is written is not a verdict, but a dragonfly.
The court-criminal decision of Fanari suffers from a normal point of view and does not stand in any favored society, which basically respects human rights. The 12th Rule of the Synod in Carthage mentions from the Sacred Canons : "A bishop is judged under a Synod, and is not expelled from the diocese, nor is he dismissed before or completely the judgment on him is over." In this case, there was no crisis for the two Metropolitans.

As far as human rights are concerned, in every civilized society the "zero trial before the myth of hearing" and the presumption of innocence apply. This is not the first time that Fanari has expressed its authoritarianism. We recall the cases of Archbishop Methodios of Thyateira and the Archbishops of America James, Spyridon and Demetriοs.
None reported on what cradled the Patriarchal Synod 8 thOctober, about the Metropolitans of New Jersey and Boston. Even the environment of the punished Metropolitans, even clergy of the Archdiocese of America, even its Hierarchs, have not spoken, so far at least. Fear pervades everyone. Most likely, the threat of losing any income (salaries or pensions) is the Damocles sword, which keeps them silent. However, information was leaked through the friendly newspaper to Fanari and to Archbishop Elpidoforos of the Greek community "Ethnikos Kiryx". On October 9, he wrote that the Patriarch proposed a two-month holiday for Boston, a sentence that would be the second for the Metropolitan in question. Then other Synodal Hierarchs spoke (Note: their names are not mentioned in the EP report), who, as always happens, bid in the Patriarch's proposal.
Regarding the abolished Constitution, the report writes meaningfully: "The Metropolitans will continue to be Metropolitans and will wait for the new Constitution to see what their position will be." It was said that the strengthening of the one, united and indivisible Archdiocese of America is necessary". The report was not refuted and foreshadows the omnipotence of the young man and young man in the Archdiocese of Elpidoforos, completely trusted by Patriarch Bartholomew. It turns out that he went to America to implement a specific plan.
In support of the above, Mr. Elpidoforos said on October 9: "We are given a wonderful opportunity to rebuild our Archdiocese from the ground up. Today we feel blessed, because this decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate gives us an excellent opportunity to plan and together with our Church in view of its 100th anniversary… I consider that this decision (Note of the Economic Patriarchate) is divinely inspired and auspicious".
The Church of America will be rebuilt from the ground up, Mr. Elpidoforos announced in advance and characterized the decision of Fanari to change the Constitution of the Archdiocese of America as divinely inspired. Secular, populist conversations, which, however, do not justify the ecclesiastical and ecclesiological arbitrariness and expediencies of the actions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. One wonders if a hundred-year-old Church can be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. This can be done in a commercial or industrial enterprise, not in the Church. Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Church and She is the same yesterday, today and in the century. The ultimate flattery and insult to the life of the Church is the characterization as divinely inspired of the decision of Fanari to change the Constitution of the Archdiocese of America… After the "first unequal" for Mr. Bartholomew,
On October 12, 2020, Archbishop Elpidoforos again convened a teleconference with the Metropolitans of the Archdiocese of America. Nothing was said about the report he sent to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, nor therefore about what it included to the detriment of the Metropolitans of New Jersey and Boston, so that the aforementioned sentences could be imposed on them. According to the Press Release of the Secretariat of the Synod, among other things, "the gratitude of the Synod to His Holiness the Patriarch" was expressed for the abolition of the Constitution voted by him in 2003 and that "the dignified living of the Rev. Metropolitan of Sardis (note until October 6, Metropolitan of New Jersey) Mr. Evangelos, who served in the Holy See of America for a number of decades, in a manner befitting his episcopal office and the tradition of our Church".
